Resilience – An immersive experimental movie about the feeling of “home” and the fear of change

Comment

Resilience is a metaphorical short film that takes place in the mind of a young woman, Renée, as she’s recalling her recent past experiences. Renée is an artist who leaves her country to study abroad. Here, her homesickness will transform in the search of the real meaning of “home”.

Through the short film, her memories are connected one to the other in a sequence of symbolic images where the different emotional states that Renée is passing through are represented by matching water physical states combined with different natural (and interior) environments.

The Team

A passionate group of people fully dedicated to making this wonderful film.

Aurora Ovan (Writer/Director/project creator) is a photographer and filmmaker based in Florence, Italy and currently studying filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. In Italy she worked as a portrait, live concert photographer and directed local music videos and also published a fantasy book in 2012 (Il Mio Destino – Clieh, il potere della Terra).

DP: Federico Tamburini is an Italian-American student at New York Film Academy in the filmmaking department. Federico says “In the past two years I’ve been freelancing as videographer and photographer building a portfolio that incorporates corporate, music and narrative movies. My main focus is cinematography because it allows me to tell stories with light and movement.”

1st AD: Dina Chun from Orlando, Florida. Currently studying at New York Film Academy pursuing her dream to become an inspiring director. Dina says “I hope to make films that humans can connect with.”

Marketing & Social Media: Rachel McCrory is an Italian-American student at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York currently persuing a degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. Rachel says “I’m passionate about everything that has to do with social media and I am focused and involved in the world of Fashion and Entertainment.”

Aurora Ovan has started a crowdfunding campaign with a goal of raising $3,500. The fund raised will be used for Production Design, Locations, Logistics and Catering.

In the creator’s own words: With this story I want to show with visual metaphors through a stream of consciousness what meant to me to leave my country and study abroad and how this experience changed my life.

In Italy, leaving your family to study abroad is something that every high school graduate has to consider seriously and, sometimes, the fear of losing your shelter is stronger than the desire to pursue a dream.

I’ve been fighting a lot with myself before taking the decision to leave my “old” life and flying to New York to study filmmaking: the thought of being alone for so long was extremely frightening. Because it’s not easy to make yourself dinner alone at night, it’s not easy to get used to think in another language, it’s not easy when “it’s just you”.

But then it’s beautiful when you make it, you understand how it goes, you grow. Isn’t it?

And this is the most important thing I learned since I’m living here: Resilience, that is the ability to cope with change and how this can lead to understand that home is a feeling.
